Focused Shockwave Therapy for Other Musculoskeletal Conditions – Sunshine Coast

Patellar Tendinopathy – Jumper's Knee

Patellar tendinopathy causes pain around the tendon below the kneecap, particularly during running, jumping or climbing stairs. Shockwave therapy may be considered as an additional treatment when symptoms persist despite appropriate rehabilitation.

Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome – Lateral Hip Pain

Pain on the outside of the hip is often associated with gluteal tendinopathy and irritation of surrounding tissues. Focused shockwave therapy may be considered for selected patients with persistent lateral hip pain, alongside strengthening and load management.

Deep Muscle Pain & Myofascial Trigger Points

Persistent muscle pain and sensitive trigger points may contribute to discomfort in the neck, back, shoulders, hips and buttocks.

Focused shockwave therapy has been investigated for certain myofascial pain conditions, including selected deeper muscle regions such as the quadratus lumborum and gluteal muscles. Potential benefits include pain reduction and improved movement, although evidence varies.

Bone Healing, Stress Fractures & Shin Splints

Focused shockwave technology can deliver acoustic energy to bone-related structures.

It has been investigated for selected delayed-healing fractures, fracture non-unions, osteonecrosis, bone stress injuries and persistent shin splints.

These conditions require appropriate medical diagnosis, imaging and, where necessary, orthopaedic supervision. Shockwave therapy is not an established first-line treatment for all bone conditions.

Other Persistent Tendon & Soft Tissue Conditions

Focused shockwave therapy may also be considered for selected persistent tendon attachment problems and other musculoskeletal conditions.

An individual assessment is essential to determine whether the treatment is appropriate and supported by relevant clinical evidence.
