Aesthetics – Focused Shockwave Therapy for Scars & Cellulite
Scar Management | Skin Texture Concerns | Advanced German-Engineered Focused Shockwave Technology
Aesthetics & Skin Health on the Sunshine Coast
Our skin changes throughout life. Scars following surgery, burns or injury may affect comfort, appearance and movement, while cellulite can cause uneven or dimpled skin texture.
At Shockwave Therapy Centre in Bli Bli on the Sunshine Coast, we provide individual assessments and information about the emerging applications of focused extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) for scar-related concerns and cellulite.
With over 10 years of experience in shockwave therapy, our clinic uses German-engineered focused shockwave technology and takes an individualised, evidence-informed approach.
Research into these applications is continuing. While some studies have reported improvements in particular scar symptoms and aspects of skin appearance, the evidence differs considerably between conditions and treatment technologies.
Our aim is to provide clear information, realistic expectations and appropriate treatment recommendations.

Our Aesthetic & Scar Therapy Services
Focused Shockwave Therapy for Scars
Scars are part of the body's natural healing process. However, some scars remain thickened, sensitive, painful or tight and may restrict the movement of surrounding tissues.
We offer individual assessments for a range of scar-related concerns, including:
-
Burn scars – particularly healed scars associated with pain, itching, tightness or restricted movement
-
Caesarean section scars – healed surgical scars with sensitivity, discomfort or reduced mobility
-
Acne scars – assessment of different scar types and discussion of appropriate treatment options
-
Surgical scars – following abdominal, orthopaedic or other procedures
-
Hypertrophic and keloid scars – raised or thickened scars requiring careful assessment
-
Scar contractures – scars associated with tightness or restricted movement
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy has been investigated particularly for pathological burn scars, with some studies reporting improvements in pain and itching.
Evidence for focused shockwave therapy specifically for acne scars, caesarean scars and many other surgical scars remains limited. It is not an established method of removing or erasing scars.

Shockwave Therapy for Cellulite
Cellulite is a common and harmless variation in skin appearance, often affecting the thighs, buttocks and hips.
It develops through interactions between the skin, underlying fat and connective tissue.
Acoustic wave therapy has been investigated as a non-invasive cosmetic treatment for cellulite.
Some studies have reported short-term changes in cellulite appearance. However, many studies involve radial pressure wave devices or combined treatments, and their findings cannot automatically be applied to focused shockwave therapy.
There is currently insufficient high-quality evidence to establish reliable or permanent cellulite reduction using focused shockwave technology.

Why We Use Focused Shockwave Technology
At Shockwave Therapy Centre, we use advanced German-engineered focused shockwave technology, which differs from radial pressure wave devices.
Focused shockwaves converge towards a selected treatment region, while radial pressure waves spread outward from the applicator.
These technologies have different physical characteristics and should not be regarded as interchangeable when evaluating clinical research.
Our clinician will explain the proposed application and its limitations before treatment.

Individual Assessment and Personalised Care
Not every scar or aesthetic concern is suitable for shockwave therapy.
During your consultation, we consider your symptoms, skin condition, medical history, previous treatment and individual goals.
Where appropriate, we may recommend established scar rehabilitation approaches, dermatological assessment or other specialist care.
Our approach includes:
-
Individual assessment and discussion of suitability
-
Clear information about available research
-
Explanation of potential risks and limitations
-
Consideration of other treatment options
-
Realistic expectations and informed consent

Our clinical services are supported by Dr Uwe Schwiersch, DPT (Physiotherapist), who has extensive experience in physiotherapy and focused shockwave therapy.
We combine clinical assessment with advanced technology and individualised treatment planning.
Our focus is on professional care, patient comfort and appropriate treatment selection rather than promising cosmetic results.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can focused shockwave therapy remove scars?
No. Shockwave therapy cannot be expected to remove or erase scars. Research into potential benefits for certain scar symptoms and characteristics is ongoing.
Can shockwave therapy help burn scars?
Some studies suggest extracorporeal shockwave therapy may help reduce pain and itching associated with pathological burn scars. Treatment suitability requires assessment, and evidence for other outcomes remains uncertain.
Can caesarean scars or acne scars be assessed?
Yes. We can discuss concerns about healed scars and advise on appropriate management. However, focused shockwave therapy is not an established treatment for all types of caesarean or acne scars.
Can shockwave therapy permanently remove cellulite?
No. Permanent cellulite removal has not been demonstrated.
Is focused shockwave therapy non-invasive?
Yes. The procedure is delivered externally without surgical incisions. Temporary discomfort, redness, swelling or bruising may occur.
How do I know which treatment is suitable?
An individual consultation can help identify the type of concern, review the available evidence and determine whether shockwave therapy or another management approach is appropriate.
