Focused Shockwave Therapy for Tendon & Soft Tissue Conditions

Persistent Tendon Pain | Sports Injuries | Tendon Attachments  Sunshine Coast

Treatment Options for Persistent Tendon Pain

Tendons connect muscles to bones and play an essential role in movement.

Repeated loading, injury and changes in tendon capacity can contribute to persistent pain, stiffness and reduced function.

At Shockwave Therapy Centre, we assess selected tendon and soft tissue conditions that have not responded sufficiently to initial conservative treatment.

Conditions We Can Assess

In addition to plantar fasciopathy, Achilles tendinopathy, shoulder calcification and elbow tendinopathy, other conditions may include:

  • Proximal hamstring tendinopathy: Persistent pain around the sitting bone, particularly during running or prolonged sitting.

  • Gluteal tendinopathy: Tendon-related pain around the outer hip.

  • Selected tendon attachment disorders: Persistent pain where tendons attach to bone.

  • Certain low-grade partial tendon injuries: Only after appropriate assessment and consideration of the available evidence.

  • Other persistent soft tissue presentations: Where the diagnosis and available research support considering shockwave therapy.

How Does Focused Shockwave Therapy Work?

Focused shockwave therapy delivers controlled acoustic pulses to selected tissue regions.

It has been investigated for pain reduction and functional improvement in several tendon conditions.

The treatment may be considered alongside progressive strengthening, load management and rehabilitation.

Evidence varies by diagnosis, and shockwave therapy is not appropriate for every tendon injury.

What Happens During Your Appointment?

Your physiotherapist will assess the affected area, review previous treatment and discuss your activity goals.

If focused shockwave therapy is appropriate, an individualised treatment program will be recommended.

Temporary soreness, redness or bruising may occur.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can shockwave therapy treat any tendon injury?

No. Suitability depends on the tendon involved, the type and severity of injury, and clinical evidence.

Does it replace physiotherapy exercises?

Generally not. Progressive loading and appropriate rehabilitation remain important for most tendinopathies.

What if I have already tried other treatments?

A clinical assessment can help determine whether another treatment approach or further investigation is appropriate.
